Anderson & Cherry Win Three Way Playoff to Claim NNG Pro / Pro Championship
(Georgetown, Ont. May 11, 2009) – The team of
Jerry Anderson (Golftown Hamilton) and Adam Cherry (Credit Valley) shot a
6-under-par 66 to win the 2009 Nearly New Golf Pro Pro Championship. Anderson
and Cherry were victorious in a three way playoff which included the teams of
Brian French (Mad River) and Bob McClure (Osprey Valley) as well as Dan Campbell
and Michael Todd (Stonetree).
“We had two chip in birdies today but
Jerry’s 2 on the par 4 10th hole was a great one,” said Cherry. “We had a great
day and we are looking forward to coming back next year,” added Anderson.
2008 Champions David Miller and Rob Moore were unable to successfully
defend their 2008 victory, leaving George Loughlean and Jim McCann as the only
team to win back to back Pro Pro Championships. Loughlean and McCann’s record of
back to back victories has been intact since 1981 when they won back to back in
81 and 82.
Three teams shot 67 to finish in a tie for fourth place.
Among that group included pre tournament favourites Alex McIntrye (Essex) and
Rick Schmidtgal who finished in a tie for second place in 2008. 2007 winners
Danny King and Tom Jackson shot a disappointing 2-under-par to finish in tie for
12th.
Notes: Warren Thomas (Cobble Beach) was the second qualifier for
the year ending Bamboomer Ontario PGA Long Drive Championship. Thomas crushed a
drive on the picturesque 16th hole at The Club at North Halton to claim his spot
in the long drive competition.
